Commissioning Editor - Education - Academic Division

The opportunity

This is an exciting opportunity to make a major contribution to Bloomsbury’s award-winning academic division. Bloomsbury Academic publishes over 40 titles a year in the field of education, including childhood studies, comparative and higher education, higher education, language and education, leadership and management, philosophy of education, research methods in education and teacher education. We have an extensive and prestigious backlist with a strong reputation nationally and internationally.

 

We are seeking an experienced academic commissioning editor to join our team of editors. You will expand our publishing in some of these areas across a range of product lines (digital, reference, textbooks, and monographs).

 

The role

  • Commissioning: research, commission and develop new print and digital projects for academic and student markets
  • List Management: manage authors / editors to ensure timely delivery of high quality manuscripts; attend and contribute to list meetings with production and marketing
  • Interdepartmental Liaison: work closely with marketing, sales, production and digital teams; liaise with US office
  • Analysis: monitor, review and analyse the performance of the list
  • Representation: attendance at conferences in the UK and internationally, university visits, sales conferences

 

Skills, knowledge, experience

  • Familiarity with education an advantage, including a strong network of contacts
  • Proactive, confident self-starter
  • Collaborative team player
  • Creative and commercial approach to list development, management and commissioning
  • Experience of digital publishing desirable
  • Strong analytic and financial skills
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in writing and verbally
  • Competent user of publishing software systems
  • Strong problem-solving, organisational and time management skills
  • Meticulous attention to detail
