Sales Manager, Non Trade – HCG Lead

Salary: Up to £35,000 pa

The Non Trade Sales team represent HCG, Little, Brown, Orion, Hodder, Headline, John Murray Press, Quercus and Octopus publishing, maximizing incremental sales for the business in both the UK and Export markets.

What you will be doing

Reporting directly to the Sales Director for Non-Trade you will be responsible for maximising the sales and profitability of Children’s and YA titles from across the list, with a specific focus on HCG. Working closely with the HCG division, the HCG Sales Director and the Sales Director for Non Trade, your role will also be to ensure all HCG Non Trade activity meets specific author and brand sales development strategies.

The role will focus on delivering the Non Trade budget for HCG across all children’s Non Trade markets, with specific remit for three key accounts and overseeing our bookclubs and children’s specialist business. You will have one direct report.

The role will suit somebody looking to take their next step in account management and someone who has a solid understanding of custom publishing, both the product and the publishing processes behind that. A good knowledge of rights and contracts would also be welcome.

What we are looking for

The most successful candidates will demonstrate exceptional knowledge of the custom publishing process, be an excellent communicator and have strong organisational skills, confidence working with figures and when dealing with customers, attention to detail, the ability to multitask and take initiative as well as being an excellent team player. 

The key tasks of the role will include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Attend all relevant internal meetings, including key publisher meetings and where appropriate reprint and new title sign off meetings
  • Attend and lead relevant customer meetings.
  • Adhere to the HUK custom publishing process for HCG
  • Monitor monthly divisional sales and margins for HCG’s Non Trade business. 
  • Identify and develop key channel strategies with the Sales Director for Non Trade
  • To maintain the permissions process so publishers, editors and agents have a clear understanding of the deals presented. 
  • Share findings of promotional activity to drive sales,
  • Provide advice for Editorial and divisional sales colleagues on key requirements for special sales channels

Excellent Microsoft Office skills (especially Excel and PowerPoint) and a comprehensive understanding of the book production process are essential.
