Sales Manager, Non Trade – GIFT & Long-Tail

Salary: Up to £35,000 pa

The Non Trade Sales team represent HCG, Little, Brown, Orion, Hodder, Headline, John Murray Press, Quercus and Octopus publishing, maximizing incremental sales for the business in both the UK and Export markets.

What you will be doing

Reporting to the Deputy Sales Director for Non-Trade you will be responsible for maximising the sales and profitability of titles from across the list, with a specific focus on the Gift Trade and Long Tail.

You will be a go-to representative for key wholesalers into the Gift Market alongside a range of non-book retailers. You will oversee all author, event and corporate sales across HUK, working closely with publicity, sales support and customer services team reporting back to the business on a regular basis.

The role would suit somebody with an exceptional knowledge of the Gift Market, particularly someone with a flair to spot trends in non-book product in the customer base and ability to translate that back to the business for IP and future publishing ideas.

What we are looking for

The most successful candidates will demonstrate exceptional knowledge of the UK Gift Market, be an excellent communicator and have strong organisational skills, confidence working with multiple customers and internal stakeholders as well maintaining a consistent process for delivering orders via our two warehouses. The ideal candidate will be creative and commercial, pay close attention to detail, have the ability to multitask and take initiative as well as being an excellent team player. 

The key tasks of the role will include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Attend all relevant internal meetings, including key publisher meetings, specifically the imprint Non Trade meetings, leading those where relevant to the gift market.
  • Attend and lead relevant customer meetings.
  • Attend relevant Trade & Consumer Fairs (Top Drawer, The Photography Show, Spring Fair,etc.)
  • Monitor monthly divisional sales for Gift Non Trade, working with the Non Trade team to ensure all divisional targets are met.
  • Identify and develop key brand strategies including building on IP and trend led publishing.
  • Share findings of gift market activity in relevant internal feedback

Excellent Microsoft Office skills (especially Excel and PowerPoint) are essential.
