Marketing and Research Executive

Salary £20,000, Full Time

The London Magazine is seeking to appoint an articulate, confident and enthusiastic person to take on the role of Marketing and Research Executive. The London Magazine (est. 1732) is the oldest literary and arts periodical in Britain. We publish the best in contemporary short fiction, poetry, essays and reviews. As a thriving cultural artefact, the magazine offers employees an immersion in London’s thriving life of letters and the arts. Our writing competitions seek out the most original new voices in short fiction and poetry and our launch receptions draw key literary figures.

While the role is predominantly a marketing one, it will involve working very closely with our editorial team, and as such a background as a web editor or arts writer would also be beneficial.

The candidate we are looking for will have a passion for literature and the arts, together with an ambition to forge a career in the world of publishing. As part of a friendly and supportive team you will bring your enthusiasm to bear on responsibilities that include:

Key Responsibilities

  • Managing social media platforms and creating content for all channels
  • Promotion of magazine both nationally and internationally
  • Producing ebooks
  • Managing open submissions
  • Sending email newsletters
  • Coordinating writing competitions
  • Initiating and managing marketing campaigns
  • Designing and organising print and online advertising
  • Managing events
  • Managing flow of content onto our website

Candidate

Educated to degree level, preferably in English literature, you must have an excellent knowledge of both literary history and contemporary publishing.

The role would suit a self-starter with a strong knowledge of the contemporary literary world, particularly with regard to independent presses. The skill set we are looking for is someone who is not only a good writer, but someone who can create engaging social media content and design creative advertising campaigns. As part of that, experience in using Photoshop, Mailchimp and Wordpress is important, as is the ability to establish connections and set up collaborations with other publishers, agencies and journals in the literary world.

You will possess a fine attention to detail, a diligent attitude and the ability to manage a balanced workload. You will have excellent interpersonal and communication skills and will be able to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.

Please send a full CV and covering letter that outline your suitability for the post to email: robert.greer@thelondonmagazine.org
