Sales Director, Children’s

Position Summary

 

The Sales Director, Children’s position is a key role within in the wider UK sales team. Children’s books are a key part of the growth strategy for UK Sales and this position will work alongside the Sales Director to manage the sales team and deliver this growth. This role will partner with the Sales Director to set budgets, print quantities and forecasts. This role will also include sales responsibility for key accounts, and will work closely with Marketing and Publicity planning campaigns.

 

Key responsibilities

  • Develop budgets, forecasts and print numbers with the Sales Director.
  • Lead the vision for sales at Children’s acquisition meetings and Cover meetings providing sales forecasts backed up with market intelligence
  • Partner with Editorial on Publishing strategy providing robust market intelligence
  • Partner with Marketing and Publicity planning campaigns and retailer specific strategy
  • Manage key accounts Waterstones, WH Smiths, Baker & Taylor and Supermarkets
  • Analyse the marketplace with regard to all published Children’s product to find new account opportunities
  • Line manger responsibilities for one Sales Executive who is responsible for Educational accounts and Book Clubs
  • Travel up to 20% of the time to visit key accounts and generate new business opportunities

 

Qualifications required

  • Up to date knowledge of key sales channels for children’s product and strong relationships with key buyers
  • 5+ years’ experience in selling in the book, gift or consumer products markets, preferable in the Children’s market
  • Demonstrable track record of consistent sales achievements
  • Proactive, forward thinking and enthusiastic
  • Excellent at building relationships; experienced in negotiating, pitching and presenting
  • First class communication skills; persuasive and sales driven
  • Numerate
  • Excellent IT skills
  • Ability to seek out and open new business
