Senior Project Editor - Professional Publishing

Would you like the opportunity to work closer to home? We have a wonderful opportunity for a Senior Project Editor to work for a professional educational organisation.  Based in their new office in Kent, this role will report to the Editorial Manager. This professional organisation is looking to grow their publishing programme and are recruiting a Senior Project Editor to work on the development and delivery of learning materials.

This is a hugely interesting and varied role and key responsibilities will include, but not restricted to:

  • Liaising closely with Commissioning Editors, learning technologists, project managers and other content owners to determine format and schedule requirements.
  • Edit learning resources, including (but not linked to) study texts, assessment materials and student handbooks.
  • Prepare content for production by applying basic styling and checking heading levels, listing illustration requirements, preparing briefs for illustrators and checking illustrations created.
  • Liaise with contributors, including authors, reviewers and examiners to resolve queries at all stages of editorial and production matters.
  • Determine requirements for freelance copy editing and proofreading support, and recruit freelance copy editors and proofreaders as required.
  • Develop an understanding of changing language usage and issues of readability and accessibility (e.g. for visually impaired learners, learners with dyslexia, etc.).

This is a pivotal as well as an extremely interesting role, and the successful person will be educated to degree level and will be able to demonstrate experience of working on all editorial stages  and ideally production stages, (though this is not essential), from draft text through to publication.  You will have strong copy editing/proofreading experience, both on-screen and paper, as well as a knowledge of editorial processes. The ability to assimilate information quickly and redraft accurately is essential, as is the confidence  to make editorial decisions and manage multiple projects to tight deadlines..  Strong IT skills are essential, including MS office.
