Business Sales Manager - Academic Market (UK) Northern England, Scotland, Ireland

We have a fabulous opportunity for an experienced Business Sales Manager with a minimum of 2 years’ experience in an academic or business to business sales environment, to work for a leading, global publisher of books, journals and digital products for the UK academic market. This role will manage territories in the UK, including Northern UK, Scotland and Ireland and will be based at their offices in Yorkshire or home-based as long as the successful person lives within one of the territories.

Reporting to the Regional Manager, the Business Sales Manager will manage and develop an existing account base and research new business and market growth throughout the academic sector.  This role requires extensive travel, (but around 3 trips per year to Ireland), including overnight stays.

Key responsibilities of the UK Business Sales Manager will include:

  • The sale of research, teaching and learning database to Academic Institutions
  • Achieving and improving upon agreed sales targets and negotiating sales
  • Customer visits
  • Representing the organisation at conferences and exhibitions
  • Ensuring subscription renewal revenue
  • Sourcing and prospecting leads
  • Communicating with all relevant internal teams (Editorial, Publishing Development, Marketing Subscriptions Services etc.)

The ideal person will be educated to degree level or equivalent, and will have at least 2-5 years’ proven success of selling into the academic market or business-to-business sales with a clear focus on achieving business growth.  You will take ownership for delivering results, have demonstrable experience of managing accounts and winning new business, with the gravitas to influence key decision makers.  Strong oral and written communication skills are essential as are a good knowledge of MS Office.   You will be a team player, pro-active and commercially minded.  The successful candidate will also need to be able to travel regularly around the given territories.

 

This role can be either based at the company offices in West Yorkshire or can be home based within the territories.

 

This role carries a competitive base salary, uncapped OTE and a generous monthly car allowance.
