Editorial Manager

Royal Mail is recruiting now for an Editorial Manager to join our Stamps and Collectibles Team. It’s an exciting time to join Stamps and Collectibles, as we’re at the start of a five year growth plan. Recent high profile projects have involved working directly with intellectual properties as diverse as Star Wars, David Bowie, the Imperial War Museum, and Royal Palaces, with a number of extremely high profile product launches in the pipeline for the next 12 months. 

 

About the role

As Editorial Manager, you’ll have accountability for managing the editorial and factual content of all stamp products. You’ll recommend the editorial approach for each product and source writers, assess abilities, and propose suitable suppliers in order to fulfil market briefs. You’ll research content, fact-check, and identify and consult with relevant subject matter experts for each new product. In addition, you will liaise with multiple third parties regarding editorial content and agree approval on final content.

With responsibility for all pre-production editorial proofreading and day-to-day management of suppliers, you’ll efficiently facilitate the production of editorial content including editing, re-writing, and copy fitting, across a significant product range. Working closely with our design managers during the stamp design process, you’ll assist with the checking of content where appropriate, draft stamp captions in consultation with the Head of Stamp Policy, and agree approval on the final stamp captions.

You’ll ensure that products have the correct legal contracts in place, particularly regarding text copyright issues and clearing literary copyright, and where necessary negotiate on behalf of the business and implement amendments to product contracts/licences. With responsibility and control over the annual editorial budget, you’ll also monitor editorial contracts for efficiency and value for money, and make recommendations for improvements. 

 

About you

A professional editor, you’ll have proven experience both in editorial management, and in a hands-on editorial capacity. With an eye for detail, and exceptional written skills, you’ll be adept at both proof reading and writing copy. An enthusiastic researcher, you’ll have the ability to identity and locate appropriate experts and rigorously check all product content is factually accurate. With end-of-line decision making responsibility, you’ll be meticulous in your work and ensure all work is completed to the highest possible standard. With strong time management and organisational skills, you’ll work well under pressure.

Experienced in managing suppliers, editors, stakeholders and subject matter experts, you’ll have exceptional interpersonal and influencing skills, with the ability to appropriately communicate messages to a variety of audiences. IT literate, you’ll be competent in both Microsoft and Adobe packages. Education to degree level is strongly preferred, but not a necessity dependent on experience.

While based at our Farringdon Road office in London, flexible working is welcomed, with occasional location independent working required in line with business needs.
