International Sales and Foreign Rights Assistant

Sweet Cherry Publishing is a small independent publishing company, and we are looking for an International Sales and Foreign Rights Assistant to join our expanding team. This role focuses heavily on communicating with potential clients, current clients and other third-party organisations within the scope of international sales. You will be a target-orientated and proactive individual who is interpersonal and confident about pitching books to potential buyers. You will also be happy to set your own targets and to self-manage your workload.
 

This is an exciting entry-level role into the world of children’s book publishing. The role will be best-suited for somebody who wants to work as part of a fun, goal-oriented team and who wants to feel a sense of accomplishment when their hard work yields successful results.
 

This role does not require prior sales experience as all training will be provided. As part of your training, you will be given a good understanding of the business and the way in which it operates, and you will primarily be supported by the UK Sales, Marketing and Publicity departments. Past initial training, you will be expected to use your initiative in creating and maintaining a regularly updated database of potential buyers.
 

Role

  • Traveling internationally to meet existing and potential new clients on behalf of the company. This could include independent booksellers, as well as large bookshop chains and publishers.
  • Exhibiting at International Book Fairs including, Frankfurt, Bologna, Beijing, Shanghai, New York, Guadalajara and London Book Fair
  • Keeping up to date with our catalogue by reading our books and familiarising yourself with our marketing campaigns
  • Pitching products to potential clients
  • Presenting Sweet Cherry and its catalogue to businesses at sales meetings
  • Developing and maintaining the client database on our internal system
  • Handling sales enquiries
  • Providing full administrative and logistical support to the team

 

Key Skills

Essential:

  • Confident communicator over the phone, face-to-face, via email and letter
  • Proactive and positive work ethic
  • Excellent sales abilities and negotiation skills
  • Strong research abilities in order to understand the company’s markets
  • Willingness to learn and to take any challenge in your stride
  • Experience communicating face-to-face and on the phone with customers, clients or third-parties
  • Fluency in a second language
  • Willingness to travel
  • Good literacy skills
  • Good numeracy skills
  • Time management skills
  • Passion for books and interest in publishing

Desirable:

  • Copywriting
  • Prior experience in a sales role
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Excel

 

Permanent, full-time position

Subject to six-month probationary period

Start date: ASAP

Rate of pay: £7.05 - £7.50 per hour + travel allowance during probationary period moving up to a salaried role upon completion of probationary period.
