Editorial Assistant

Titan Publishing Group, the UK’s leading publisher of licensed film and TV entertainment titles, are currently recruiting for an Editorial Assistant – Fiction.

 

We’re looking for a highly organised, enthusiastic individual to join our busy fiction division. This position offers the right candidate a unique opportunity to learn the ins and outs of the editorial process. As well as providing general administrative support to the editorial team, the role will include liaison with authors and licensors, proofreading and copyediting, writing jacket copy and reading submissions. You will work closely with internal departments such as Sales, Marketing, Contracts, Rights, Production, and Design, and help ensure projects keep to schedule.

 

The ideal candidate will be educated to degree level or have equivalent experience and must have excellent written and communication skills along with strong computer skills, including Word and Excel. InDesign skills are desirable. You must be well organised, highly efficient and able to set priorities and meet deadlines under pressure.

 

A demonstrable interest in sci-fi, fantasy, horror and crime is essential, as is an awareness of TV, movie and gaming trends.

 

Responsibilities/Duties:

Editorial assistants perform a wide range of administrative and editorial tasks essential to keeping the publishing process running smoothly. They act as the liaison for the many people involved in creating a book from the receipt of manuscripts from authors through to the handover to production staff.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Entering new title information and metadata into publishing databases;
  • Proofreading copy, collating proofs, producing flat plans;
  • Writing cover copy and Tis;
  • Despatch of complimentary copies to licensors, authors etc;
  • Dealing with general contracts admin and maintaining contracts records;
  • Coding and processing invoices;
  • Circulating internal office copies of finished books;
  • Departmental filing, scanning & copying;
  • Booking overseas and domestic travel for all Books staff.

 

Core Skills and Experience:

  • Educated to degree level or have equivalent experience.
  • Excellent written and communication skills
  • Strong numeracy and computer skills, including InDesign, Word and Excel.
  • Well organised and able to set priorities under pressure.
  • A demonstrable interest in genre fiction – SF, Fantasy, Horror and Crime is essential.
  • An interest and knowledge of TV, gaming and movie trends is essential.
