Contracts Assistant

We’re looking for a Contracts Assistant to join our Contracts division. This role would suit someone with excellent interpersonal skills, strong administrative skills and a keen interest in the publishing process. This is fantastic chance to join a team on the prestigious GC Power List 2015, in a list of the top 50 exceptional in-house legal teams in the world.

 

Responsibilities

  • Provide commercial advice where appropriate
  • Draft HCP contracts (for example acquisition and licensing of rights)
  • Review third party contracts
  • Draft confidentiality agreements, standard competition terms & conditions
  • Negotiate acquisition contracts on behalf of the commissioning editor where appropriate
  • Review most Contract Request Forms as they are submitted to the department
  • Take responsibility for and manage reversion requests
  • Manage permissions requests;
  • Issue ISBNs
  • Undertake special projects and other duties as decided by the Contracts Manager

 

Key Skills/Experience

  • Publishing experience would be advantageous
  • Experience in a legal team or legal qualification desirable
  • Must have some experience of working in an office environment
  • Good knowledge of MS programmes including Word, Excel and Outlook
  • A good team player who is capable of working on their own initiative
  • Computer literate with a good eye for detail
  • A confident and effective communicator in written and verbal media
  • Able to work calmly and effectively under pressure
  • Highly organised and able to effectively prioritise and manage workloads
  • Accustomed to working towards deadlines

 

We’re based in the News Building which we share with our News UK and Dow Jones colleagues in the newly-established London Bridge Quarter, opposite the famous Borough Market.  Our new open-plan office has amazing views across London, and includes a variety of break-out areas to aid inspiration and a collaborative approach, a multi-media suite, and a fabulous canteen floor and book shop.
