Academic Marketing Manager

 

Reporting to: Head of Marketing

Contract: Permanent

Hours: Full Time – 5 days (35 hours) per week

Salary: According to experience

Academic Marketing Manager required to conceive and implement creative marketing campaigns for both front and backlist titles targeting academic, professional and specialist sectors/communities. The Academic Marketing Manager will develop strategies to achieve measurable objectives for this list through an understanding of subject markets, communities, and detailed knowledge of academic channels that are effective. It will be necessary to work with external clients as well as colleagues across the company. Special focus on enhancing and positioning the Yale brand to create new academic sales opportunities.

Key Areas of Responsibility

  • Strategically develop Yale’s academic marketing to increase revenue from academic and specialist channels and communities

     

  • Develop and implement marketing campaigns for front and backlist titles, working with the marketing assistant to utilise a range of marketing tools (direct mail, review and inspection copies, conferences, online marketing, sales materials, offers, advertising, catalogues etc)

     

  • Manage expenditure to ensure all projects pass through budgeting and schedule procedures - to be delivered on time and to budget

     

  • Build a robust customer relationship strategy, including lists, and develop expertise in the use of external services and resources to target customer communities

     

  • Monitor and analyse campaign work, as well as trends in the academic market (including competitor products and services)

Person Specification

Essential:

• Relevant experience, ideally gained in an academic publishing environment

• Excellent IT skills and knowledge of marketing software, including Google Analytics and email campaign software

• Ability to translate complex ideas into eye-catching and engaging campaigns

• Commercial acumen with entrepreneurial approach to seeking opportunities

• Experience of generating leads and driving revenue growth

• Proven planning and budgeting skills

• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

• Proven ability to congruently manage and proactively motivate team members

• Accurate, innovative and market-appropriate copywriting skills

• Strong time management and ability to prioritise work and be flexible

• Good market awareness within the publishing industry and the academy

• Confident analytic skills to identify opportunities and realise strategic goals.

Desirable:

• Educated to degree level

• Experience liaising with list brokers and mailing houses

• Print buying experience

• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Adobe Creative Suite

The Location:
