About the role

The Law Department is committed to developing outstanding resources to support practitioners and scholars in all areas of the law. Our practitioner law programme continues to grow, and the Dispute Resolution, Private International Law, and Civil Law lists contain a number of important copyrights. Reporting to, and working closely with, the Commissioning Editor for Practitioner Law, we are looking for an Assistant Commissioning Editor to join our Oxford-based editorial team. Duties include:

  • Co-ordinating the peer review process for new proposals, securing appropriate and timely advice to maintain the quality of the practitioner law publishing programme
  • Liaising with authors, editors, and contributors post-contract to determine progress and encourage timely submission of high quality work
  • Providing administrative support to the Commissioning Editor, including drawing up contracts, preparing cover briefs, and drafting marketing copy
  • Checking delivered text for house style and performing handovers to production
  • Handling content for looseleaf services and online subscription products
  • Representing the Press at external events including book launches and conferences

About you

The successful candidate will have:

Essential:

  • Relevant experience in publishing/editorial
  • First class organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise workload
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, and a high level of professionalism
  • Computer proficiency, particularly MS Word and Excel
  • Self-motivation and a willingness to take on responsibility
  • High level of accuracy, both written and numerical, with excellent attention to detail

Desirable:

  • A good honours degree (or equivalent)
  • An interest in or knowledge of the law
  • Experience/knowledge of digital publishing

Salary: Competitive salary depending on skills and experience
