Associate Publisher - Open Platforms

Our client, a leading STM Publisher requires an Associate Publisher who will set up and manage a portfolio of open science publishing platforms for external partners such as funders, societies, research institutions and other life sciences organisations. This will involve building close relationships with the external clients and supporting them in developing their platforms with services and features that serve the needs of their research communities.

The role requires close liaison with other internal teams, including other senior staff across Platforms, Editorial and Marketing/Sales staff, and developers, and involves effective project management to achieve specific goals within tight deadlines.

You will set up the new platforms - Project-manage the platform set up, ensuring contractual agreements are fully met. Also continue platform development by developing and implement a rolling 12-months development plan for each platform, with a particular view to showcasing the client’s Open Science activities and to increasing visibility of the platform and its features to the client’s research community (e.g. grantees).

Skills & Experience: 

  • Educated to degree level, with a biomedical background.
  • An active interest and high level of awareness of issues related to open science publishing and open data
  • Thorough knowledge of publishing processes and related matters
  • At least five years of scientific publishing experience, preferably online, including extensive contact with editors, authors, reviewers and societies and experience with journal development activities
  • Experience of project management
  • Highly customer focused
  • Excellent communication, negotiation and influencing skills with individuals at all levels of seniority
  • Strong organisational skills with attention to detail
  • Able to complete complex projects, working to (often competing) deadlines
  • A positive and proactive approach to problem solving both in daily tasks and more complex trouble-shooting
  • Able to think rapidly and to adapt to change
  • Strong leadership skills
  • Clear analytical skills
  • Able to work cooperatively with colleagues and external clients at all levels
  • A high level of computer literacy (including MS Office, Outlook and internet browsers)
  • Willing to travel
