Editor, Atlantic Fiction

Leading independent publisher seeks full-time editor for literary list with minimum four years’ trade publishing experience.

The successful candidate will report to the Atlantic Fiction Publishing Director and will be looking after a stable of authors within the Atlantic list as well as commissioning new titles. Major areas of responsibility include: structural edits; line edits; seeing titles through all stages of the production process; developing and maintaining relationships with authors; expanding contacts with literary agents; creative talent scouting; working with sales, marketing and publicity on promotional plans.

In addition, the editor will undertake some desk editing for the Publishing Director’s titles, work as author/agent liaison for the Atlantic Books paperback team, create Advance Information sheets, write cover and catalogue copy, prepare cover briefs, check ebook files, proof-read sales and marketing material, read submissions.

The ideal candidate would have omnivorous tastes, be familiar with the literary marketplace, have strong communication skills, be a creative and critical thinker, and possess excellent attention to detail.

Atlantic Fiction is a literary list that has consistently published prize-winners and bestsellers, from Aravind Adiga and Hanya Yanagihara, to Bryan Washington and Oyinkan Braithwaite. We are proud to publish the boldest voices and the brightest storytellers from across the world.

Atlantic Books is part of the Independent Alliance, and incorporates Atlantic Books, Corvus, Allen & Unwin and Grove Press. This is a full-time role based at our head office in Bloomsbury, central London. We operate core hours of 10am-4pm, with a minimum of two days a week in the office (though we are currently following government guidelines and mostly working from home).
