Book Commissioning Editor

A leading professional publisher for the engineering and technology sector is looking for a Books Commissioning Editor. You will assist in the development of the books programme and commission successful STM academic titles. The role can be home-based with occasional trips to the office or in Hertfordshire, a straightforward commute from London or Cambridge.

Key duties:

• Research the market, identify new topic areas and assess commercial opportunities for products
• Contribute to the content acquisition strategy and recruit authors and editors
• Engage with specialists, grow and maintain sustainable subject communities’ relationships
• Develop project proposals with authors and present them to company meetings
• Collaborate with marketing and sales departments to ensure a timely publication process

Experience / skills required:

• Strong commissioning experience in STM or academic books publishing
• Excellent communicator with strong presentation skills and the ability to engage with stakeholders
• Commercially aware and able to promote successful product developments
• Strong organizational, time management and problem solving skills
• Educated to degree level or equivalent
• Willingness to travel nationally and internationally
