Book Purchasing and Publisher Relations Coordinator

 

We have a unique opportunity to join a highly successful charity which focuses on reading, particularly working to inspire reading with children. The organisation selects and purchases a variety of children’s books in great numbers and they are now looking for an experienced and switched on individual to support their Director of Publisher Relations within the areas of book selection and book purchasing by providing an efficient administrative and project coordination function.

This is a fabulous opportunity to use your previous experience and knowledge of publishing within the purchasing and selection of books for children and key responsibilities will include:

  • Attending publishing events and book launches where appropriate
  • Being the main point of contact for publishers regarding practical procurement issues
  • Negotiate terms with publishers
  • Organise and administer book selection panel meetings with input from programme teams
  • Promote and encourage knowledge about children’s books within the organisation
  • Provide admin support for other activities around publisher relations

This core role requires a candidate who is self-assured with a strong knowledge/experience of aspects of children’s book development and purchasing and the successful candidate will have significantly demonstrable administrative and project coordination experience in a publishing-related role, plus a strong knowledge of book production and pricing principles with knowledge of publishing industry discounts and children’s book publishing.  Excellent IT skills are essential for this role, particularly experience of MS Office and Database experience.
