Commissioning Editor

Bristol University Press (BUP) is looking for a Commissioning Editor to join their dynamic and committed team and manage their growing Law list for a maternity cover of 12 months from September 2021.

As the current Senior Commissioning Editor of the Law list has developed a clear strategy and publishing pipeline, the Press is flexible about appointing at either Associate Commissioning Editor, Commissioning Editor or Senior Commissioning Editor level dependent on the right candidate and their experience. Targets and overall duties will be adjusted accordingly based on the attached job descriptions. 

What will you be doing?

You will be responsible for proactively acquiring and managing new book projects and ensuring high-quality content is delivered on time and to budget. Covering areas including socio-legal studies, human rights, public law, environmental law, labour law, family law and health law, you will commission to the strategy for the Law list which aligns with BUP’s focus on social justice and addressing the global challenges facing society now and in the future.

You should apply if

You have proven experience of commissioning in academic publishing, ideally within the social sciences and a track record of managing commercially successful lists. Experience of commissioning in Law or related areas would be an advantage. You will share BUP’s commitment to world-class scholarship, global impact and author care and have strong organisational skills, the ability to juggle competing priorities, to think critically, and problem solve.

This is a challenging role for a motivated and enthusiastic individual. You will be part of a passionate team, responsible for building an exciting frontlist and contributing to the success of BUP.

UK and international travel may be required.
