The Octopus Publishing Group is an award-winning and leading book publisher of illustrated non-fiction in the fields of food and drink, gardening, design, craft, MBS, sport, children’s, and reference.  The group comprises several imprints including Conran Octopus, Gaia, Godsfield Press, Hamlyn, Miller’s, Mitchell Beazley, Philip’s, Spruce, Ilex, TickTock and Bounty who all seek to produce the very best books and ebooks in illustrated publishing.

 

Job Profile:

This is a newly created role for a passionate communicator with over three years’ experience working in Publicity in publishing or in an agency. Reporting to the Head of Publicity and Marketing, the role will involve working across the whole Octopus Publishing Group list.

 

Your Role:

You will create high level campaigns from scratch across the entire list covering everything from high profile chefs and pop icons to designers and lifestyle authors. You will be expected to create demand and awareness for our books across a wide range of platforms, from social media to print publications and broadcast and all relevant media channels.

In your day to day role, you will work closely with journalists, authors, bookshops, festivals, commissioning editors and the sales team. You will collaborate with your Publicity and Marketing colleagues to create innovative and effective campaigns on frontlist titles as well as working on and establishing ongoing projects within the team.

 

 The Candidate’s Profile:

We are looking for an experienced and dynamic communicator who has over three years’ experience working in publicity either in publishing or in an agency. You will be able to work collaboratively as part of a team as well as independently and will bring enthusiasm and new ideas to our publishing activities.

You will have experience of creating and executing successful publicity campaigns across a range of subjects and will have a proven track record in driving sales through targeted media coverage and activity. You will have strong press contacts and be confident to present the entire Octopus list at journalist meetings instigated by you on a regular basis. You will relish a challenge and always be looking for new ways to reach our audience and find out more about who they are and what they want.
