Collections Service Manager

Our client, a leading body that supports the procurement of digital content for education and research in the UK requires a Collections Service Manager, based in London.

The Collections Services Manager will:

  • Plan and implement the schedules for renewal of all licence agreements and ensure that they are concluded on time and to the greatest advantage of libraries in higher and further education
  • Manage the team of licensing managers, licensing specialist, transactional website team, operations manager and help-desk team
  • Ensure licence agreements are negotiated to the highest standard
  • Negotiate with publishers of scholarly and educational content to achieve the best deals (as defined by the Electronic Information Resources Working Group) and licence terms and conditions
  • Prepare papers and provide secretariat support to the Electronic Information Resources Working Group
  • Ensure the processes for the management of naming, storing and filing licence agreements is followed
  • Ensure that institutions understand how the activities of the company supports their own objectives and context and that it delivers value for money
  • Ensure that licence renewals are reviewed and communicated to libraries in a clear and timely fashion
  • Provide Head of Library support with the efficiency and impact data to evidence value and strategic impact within the sectors and to our communities
  • Ensure robust processes are in place to ensure effective cash collection and payment of subscription income and expenditure.

Skills & Experience:

  • Track record of successful negotiation and licensing of digital content for the library community
  • Effective communication skills, enabling confident communication with colleagues and the library community
  • To have an understanding of licensing and copyright issues
  • To have a thorough understanding of the business models for open access and subscription based content and understand the impacts these have on library budgets
  • To have a thorough understanding of digital content
  • To be self-motivated
  • Well organised and have the ability to use initiative to manage and prioritise own workload and manage own time to ensure that competing deadlines are met and completed tasks are delivered to the required specification
  • Experienced and effective in all aspects of staff management
  • First degree or higher
