Our client is an innovative, creative and established London based publisher of educational materials. They have an exciting opportunity for a Commissioning Editor to join their market leading Assessment team for Schools in the UK. You will have commissioning and development experience within education publishing and be ready for a new challenge within an ambitious organisation.

Working closely with the Publisher of the list, you will develop and implement strategic plans for this specific list. You will work with a highly successful team of publishers, sales and marketing teams to prepare market-focussed, profitable publishing proposals and then refine these through testing and market research.

Responsibilities include:

  • Take project ideas from the publishing plans and develop a blended product offering of books, resources and software/digital products for schools.
  • To be the in-house expert for specific lists.

  • To write author briefs and commission authors.
  • To ensure that projects are delivered on time, that they meet the agreed concept brief, author brief and the quality expectations of the business.
  • Responsible from concept to delivery, ensuring agreed process and quality checks are adhered to.
  • Work closely with the Publisher and Marketing manager to review the list performance and profitability and initiate any actions required. (Promotions, updates, new editions)

In this role you will be continually aware of the changing requirements of schools and teachers, supporting the teacher in providing high quality and relevant resources, underpinning the business’ mission to be the leading primary publisher and the teacher’s friend. You will be innovative,  contributing project ideas where possible, considering back list content for repurposing, suggesting digital resources and different business models as required.
