Commissioning Editor (Children's)

We have an exciting opportunity for a Commissioning Editor to join a leading publisher based in central London. This is an excellent opportunity to gain experience working across a diverse list of Children's educational fiction and trade non-fiction.

 

Key duties:

  • Proactively research, commission and develop a list of title ideas across a variety of subject areas
  • Prepare and present proposals for new titles
  • Research market trends and maintain a solid awareness in order to identify publishing opportunities
  • Oversee all editorial and publication processes for the list
  • Liaise closely with colleagues to ensure books are published on time and to budget

Experience / skills required:

  • Previous experience of working on educational fiction is essential, ideally on hi-lo titles
  • A solid knowledge of the market and the ability to identify new trends
  • Excellent knowledge of editorial and commissioning processes
  • Strong communication, interpersonal and negotiation skills
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Experience in teaching or an educational environment would be advantageous
