Commissioning Editor

Books Commissioning Editor | Academic | London. A leading academic publisher, based in London, is looking to appoint a Commissioning Editor to look after a designated important discipline within their Books list.
Fundamental to this position will be the building of strong author relationships, ensuring that your books fulfil their sales potential while enhancing the company's reputation as a successful and innovative publisher.

In this role responsibilities include:

·Recruit authors to write new titles and new editions from an agreed hit list.
·Identify current and future market trends.
·Develop market knowledge through campus-calling and desk based research
·Provide creative support to authors
·Develop and monitor the backlist.

As Commissioning Editor, you will be the 'champion' of your discipline and may also supervise the work of an Editorial Assistant. Using your project management skills, you will manage products from early stages through to publication.

You will have a proven track record in adding value to a publishing programme and a strong understanding of both market conditions and academic publishing.

You will need to have excellent commercial experience while your experience of using market research to inform and shape product development will be important.

In this important role, you will need to be a 'self-starter', brilliant at finding new authors and able to build relationships with key stakeholders. You will also have fantastic influencing skills allowing you to gain 'buy-in' from colleagues in editorial, marketing and sales.

This could also be an ideal opportunity for an Associate Editor looking to step up into their first commissioning role.
