Commissioning Editor, Books

Are you an Associate Editor looking for your first Commissioning Editor role? We have an exciting opportunity for a Commissioning Editor to join the Books department of a leading Academic publisher based in central London. The successful candidate will be responsible for acquiring new books and editions for the health sciences and delivering a frontlist. Commissioning Editor Key duties:

  • Commission new titles and editions
  • Transmit manuscripts to achieve frontlist budget
  • Contribute to list strategy formation and hitlisting
  • Work closely with authors and ensure projects are on schedule and delivered to plan
  • Monitor cost and agree pricing on each title to achieve profitability
  • Develop market knowledge via campus-calling and desk-based research
  • Attend conferences and author meetings
  • Work with internal teams
  • Manage an Assistant to ensure they provide strong support

Commissioning Editor Experience / skills required:

  • Graduate with good knowledge of academic books including the key functions and processes within academic publishing
  • Proficient in the standard IT package including email, word-processing and spreadsheets
  • Strong communication skills with an ability to manage workload
  • Ability to carry out effective research and analyse market knowledge
