Commissioning Editor, ELT, Cambridge

Our client, a Cambridge based educational publisher, is seeking a Commissioning Editor to work on their ELT examination publications. The successful candidate will ensure the delivery of an extensive publishing programme with responsibility for the research and development of an allocated area. They will work closely with the Publisher and Publishing Team to identify and commission projects or components for particular projects.

The role is split into five key areas of focus; strategy, project management, staff management, research, commissioning and teamwork. The Commissioning Editor will identify realistic opportunities and deliver and manage the development of a range of print and digital products within schedule and budget. They will manage, motivate and support staff and engage with thorough market research in order to understand their target audience. This emphasis on keeping up to date with ELT trends will impact successful commissioning decisions and help in the identification of appropriate authors to approach and proposals to initiate.

The ideal applicant will be educated to degree level or equivalent with a CELTA qualification or similar. They will have demonstrable experience in an ELT editorial position with a commissioning aspect and be familiar with managing multi-component projects. They will be organised, skilled at time management and be a strong decision-maker. Additionally, they will be experienced with digital products and have managed freelancers in a previous role. A keen eye for detail and familiarity with the examinations marketplace is important and the successful applicant will have commercial awareness and financial acumen.
