A global academic publisher is currently looking for a Commissioning Editor to join their thriving and growing journals team and assist in developing their list, contributing to the strategic plan and delivering the team’s objectives.

A fantastic opportunity is now available at rapidly growing academic publisher for a Commissioning Editor to join their Humanities and Social Sciences Editorial department and lead the charge for growing the lists and promoting the brand.

The key responsibilities of the Commissioning Editor will include but won’t be limited to:

• Independently managing and developing journals backlists and society journals according to the editorial plan.
• Line managing staff members and ensuring that they develop and deliver on objectives.
• Developing the academic quality of the portfolio in order to boost the brand and become a title leader.
• Commissioning high quality content and titles consistent with the goals and strategy for the portfolio.
• Carrying out market analysis to identify future and current trends, in order to contribute to the editorial strategy for future development.

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate:

• A strong background of managing and commissioning an established list of journals within the higher education market.
• Previous experience of managing a large social science/humanities portfolio and working with associated academic communities.
• Management of budgets in order to apply resources effectively.
• Strong leadership skills or previous experience of managing staff members.
• Excellent problem solving skills and knowledge of resolving disputes in a calm and fair manner.
