Commissioning Editor (journals)
A leading academic publisher in central London is looking to appoint a commissioning editor to independently commission, manage and develop a list of Social Science and Humanities journals and to contribute to the company's editorial plan for future development and growth.
Key duties:
- Proactively research the market and contact potential partners to commission journals
- Manage and develop journals backlist and society journals, negotiating renewals
- Maximise profitability of the list, developing the company’s reputation
- Build and maintain strong relationships with academic contacts, providing support and negotiating terms
- Identify market trends and support the publisher in the development of the list
- Line manage one member of staff
Experience / skills required:
- Proven commissioning experience in journals publishing environment
- Experienced in managing a list of proprietary and society journals
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously within tight time pressures
- Excellent communication and networking skills, with the ability to work independently
- Financially aware and a good understanding of the journals publishing business
- Ability to travel within the UK, Europe and internationally
- Educated to degree level or equivalent
