Commissioning Editor - Online Reference

An interesting opening has arisen with a highly respected and successful publishing arm of a professional, multidisciplinary Society.  Reporting to the Publisher, Practitioner Publishing, this role will commission practitioner level technical engineering content for a new online reference publication for engineers.  This product is designed to help engineers solve day to day problems and research.

This is an interesting commissioning role and will involve undertaking and developing all the commissioning activity by researching the topic area/market, and identifying, commissioning and signing potential authors, as well as developing a network of authors and reviewers.  You will manage the peer review process of commissioned content and set up your own project management and follow-up systems in order to achieve commissioning targets/content delivery deadlines.  This role will also involve setting up and developing an editorial board of expert advisers.

This is a key role within the department and the successful person will be educated to degree level, with a minimum of 2-3 years publishing/commissioning experience, combined with a successful track record in commissioning content and publishing content to deadlines. You will ideally have demonstrable experience of working with contributing authors/ editors/ advisers and have the ability to meet commissioning targets on time.  You will be a self-starter with the ability to identify commissioning/content opportunities and networks and able to work productively on your own initiative, managing workloads to meet deadlines.

Experience of working within the science, engineering and technology areas of publishing would be an advantage as would knowledge/experience of STM or professional publishing.
