Commissioning Editor/Senior Commissioning Editor

Commissioning Editor/Senior Commissioning Editor | Academic. Our client, a thriving academic publisher, producing around 250 new books each year with an emphasis on the Humanities and Social Sciences, is looking to appoint a Commissioning Editor or Senior Commissioning Editor to work on their Islamic & Middle Eastern Studies list. This is one of their most established lists and there are ambitious plans to grow the list further. You will work alongside the Publisher to develop this profitable list using your excellent commissioning experience and strong market knowledge.
The Commissioning Editor/Senior Commissioning Editor will commission saleable and high impact books from the introductory, through the graduate, to the research levels in modern Middle Eastern Studies, and in Arabic Literature & Language.

Responsibilities will include:

Achieve agreed signing target and budgeted sales revenue.
Investigate and develop new ideas and book leads from all sources.
Regularly attend relevant conferences in the UK and overseas.
Regularly conduct academic calling in the UK and overseas.
Keep informed of market developments and maintain an appropriate awareness of international markets.
Demonstrable experience of commissioning for the academic market is essential, as is the ability to network widely (including regular travel in the UK and overseas), build effective relationships with authors and work efficiently in a busy environment.

Knowledge of the area of Islamic & Middle Eastern Studies is highly desirable.

You will have first class communication skills and will be able to liaise effectively with internal colleagues.
