Data Scientist – Journals

An academic publisher with one of the most successful track records for growth over the last ten years is looking to recruit a Data Scientist to help them engage better with their journal data.

You will be charged with using data to analyse trends, correlations and abnormalities reporting your findings back to key stakeholders to inform future journal business decisions.  The key responsibilities include;

  • extracting meaning from data
  • communicating findings to stakeholders
  • supporting a new program to better utilise journal data
  • making suggestions that help improve business and financial performance
  • driving efficiencies in the publishing process
  • understanding trends in new fields of research
  • understanding who is submitting research
  • understanding trends across disciplines and territories
  • optimising revenue opportunities and article submissions

The ideal candidate will be able to display some experience as an analyst working with data sets of a variety of types and sizes as well as possessing the ability to code independently in a popular language such as Python or R.  You should also possess relevant experience managing large databases and synthesising information to influence business decisions. An interest in scholarly communications and academic journal publishing would be beneficial. Language, reasoning, analytical and mathematical skills are essential, as is strong written and spoken English.
