Deputy Production Editorial Manager

We have an exciting opening for a Deputy Production Editorial Manager to join a world leading publisher of books and journals in Oxfordshire.  This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Production Editor to join a growing team and provide managerial support to the Production Editorial Manager.  There are three positions available.

 

Key duties:

  • Responsible for controlling schedules, budgets and quality and producing production estimates
  • Assess the quality of artwork and sample pages and prepare material for printers
  • Manage the processing of new manuscripts received from editorial teams based in the UK and USA
  • Assist in the training of new members of staff and oversee the development of Production Editors
  • Develop processes and working methods to improve efficiency and effectiveness
  • Deputise for the Production Editorial Manager as needed, including attending meetings and allocating work and suppliers as required

 

Experience / skills required:

  • Established experience in a production editorial role in academic books or journals publishing
  • A solid understanding of the prepress and manufacturing processes
  • Proven organisational and negotiation skills
  • The ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines
  • An understanding of and enthusiasm for working with new technology is essential
