Salary: £27,380.36
Taylor & Francis, a leading international academic publisher, currently have 3x Deputy Production Editorial Manager vacancies within the Books Production department. The position involves managing the production of new titles from initial typescript through to delivery of final product, and providing managerial support to the Production Editorial Manager.
Managing the production of new titles will include:
- Commissioning, preparing material for and managing external suppliers
- Assessing the quality of artwork and sample pages
- Preparing material for text and cover printers
- Liaising with authors, commissioning editors, project managers, freelancers, printers and designers
- Providing authors/suppliers with relevant information and support
- Controlling schedules, budgets and quality
- Producing complex production estimates
Providing managerial support will include:
- Processing new typescripts handed over by Editorial teams, based both in the UK and US
- Assisting in the training of new members of staff
- Helping to oversee the development of Production Editors
- Assisting in the recruitment of new staff members and freelancers
- Managing in-house freelancers when necessary
- Covering for staff absences
- Developing new ways of working to improve efficiency and effectiveness
- Fostering a positive working environment
- Deputising for the Production Editorial Manager, which could involve:
- allocating suppliers as required
- allocating work within the team as required
- acting as a point of contact in the absence of the Manager and/or as required
- attending meetings
The successful candidate will ideally have a proven ability for organization and negotiating, and book or journal skills from working in a production editorial environment. They will possess a good understanding of the prepress and manufacturing processes. The ability to work effectively under pressure and an aptitude and enthusiasm for working with new technology is essential.
