Editor

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Editor to join the Middle East office of a leading UK-based international trade publisher. Working with the Head of English Publishing, you will be responsible for assisting in the selection, editing and publishing of the very best of Arabic literary fiction and non-fiction into English translation.

 

Key duties:

  • Help shape the literary list to an agreed schedule and budget
  • Work closely with Arab authors and Arabic to English literary translators
  • Manage live databases and be responsible for important data entry for each project
  • Work with freelancers to ensure that all publications and manuscripts are edited to a high standard
  • Opportunity to commission
  • Actively participate in acquisition and editorial meetings
  • Frequent travel within the Middle East and to the London office

 

Experience / skills required:

  • Passion for literature in translation
  • Previous experience of working in a trade book publishing company
  • Exceptional writing, reading, critical and analytical English skills
  • Working knowledge of Arabic or another language would be advantageous
  • Excellent organisational and document management skills
  • High attention to detail and able to work well in a team
