Editor - Children`s Books

A fabulous opportunity has arisen at this innovative children`s publisher of pre-school and novelty books.  They are looking to recruit a highly motivated and talented Editor who is passionate about children`s books to join their friendly and highly successful editorial team.

Reporting to the Managing Editor this role will work as part of the creative team producing new frontlist titles, on time and within budget and creating manuscripts and bookplans for new titles, plus, brief designers, write, edit and proofread frontlist titles. You will support the Managing Editor as and when required and mentor an Editorial Assistant, providing guidance and support where necessary.  Other responsibilities will include briefing freelancers – making sure their work is delivered on time and to budget; co-ordinate all materials that are sent to and from production and keep up to date with current developments in the industry and aware of the brand and its competitors.  Within this role you will work with the design manager, designers and production teams to deliver editorial content and work with freelance editors, writers, designers and consultants to manage services when required.

This is a wonderful opportunity to work with a prestigious children`s brand and the successful candidate will be of graduate calibre with a strong interest in children`s publishing.  You will have at least 2-3 years experience in an editorial capacity within children`s publishing, ideally with a background in novelty and/or pre-school books. You will have excellent attention to detail with a strong creative ability; competent in project and time management; great communication and administration skills.  Experience of using InDesign would be useful but not essential but you should be motivated and keen to work as part of a successful team.
