Editorial Assistant

 

Key Duties

  • Work within a small independent publishing team across titles from Legend Press (fiction), Paperbooks (non-fiction) and Legend Business (business). The three companies currently publish approx. 15 titles per year with the plan to increase this to over 30 within next two years.
  • Liaise with other departments, writers, photographers, printers, designers and production staff to negotiate and monitor timescales for stages in the publishing process.
  • Source new freelance contacts, rights and permissions where necessary.
  • Keep databases, spreadsheets and other records up to date.
  • Administer the general submissions accounts, keeping up to date with reading and providing reader reports where necessary.
  • Send author copies and other materials as required to authors and agents.
  • Give opinion on key stages of the publishing process, such as covers and planned publicity.
  • Organise and research projects to tight deadlines.
  • Amend articles, proofreading and sometimes copy-editing documents.
  • Making proofreading corrections.
  • Writing articles and reports.
  • Handle phone and email queries.
  • Filing, photocopying and other routine administrative tasks.
  • Using specialist electronic publishing packages e.g. InDesign.

 

Experience: 1-2 years publishing experience is preferable.

 

Salary is based on experience.

 

Place of work: 175-185 Gray’s Inn Road, London WC1X 8UE.

 

Your working hours would usually be 9am to 5pm, Monday to Friday. You will need to be flexible and work longer hours where your workload requires it.
