Editorial Assistant - Books

This is a fabulous opportunity for an enthusiastic and highly motivated individual who is looking to get into publishing.  Working for the publishing division of this highly respected Professional Institute based in Hertfordshire, this role will report to the Assistant Editor and will involve editorial and production duties on a list of business and technical books.

This is a great role where you will learn and gain fantastic experience about the publishing process and responsibilities will involve:

• Dealing with email queries from authors, referees and other general enquiries
• Liaise with Commissioned Editors to issue and manage the signing of contributor contracts
• Analyse incoming manuscripts
• Issue Gratis and review copies when books are published
• Provide support to the Editorial and Production team
• Liaise with Finance to ensure payment of royalties are on time
• Creating and updating webpages

This is a unique opportunity for a graduate with some office/publishing experience, serious about a career in publishing.  Therefore, the successful person will be educated to degree level, (ideally in a scientific or engineering discipline) and will have some office experience or experience from an internship where you have dealt with a varied workload. You will have a high degree of literacy, numeracy, and IT skills; strong organisational, time management and communication skills. You will have a demonstrable interest in working in the publishing industry, with a strong customer focus. Experience/or an internship within an academic or science  book or journal publishing environment would be useful but not essential.
