Editorial Assistant - Journals

This is a fantastic opportunity for a motivated and ambitious person of excellent graduate calibre, looking to pursue a career in scientific publishing.

This well-known and highly successful publisher of science and engineering journals is looking to recruit a number of Editorial Assistants to assist the Publisher and two Commissioning Editors, carrying out assigned editorial and production duties across a range of engineering and science related journals.

These roles will kick-start your publishing career and the varied responsibilities will include overseeing the online engineering reference work peer review process, and contribute to it as required, by assisting in selecting referees and processing the decisions of the editorial board/advisors/peer reviewers; answer email queries  from authors, referees and other general enquiries.  You will work with scientific editors to ensure timely decisions and general admin duties as appropriate.  Other duties will include overseeing the journals production process, copyediting/proofreading and updating and creating web pages.

These roles require enthusiastic self-starters with excellent interpersonal and communication skills and the successful candidates will be of strong graduate calibre, ideally possessing a science or engineering degree.  You will have some office skills/experience, including good IT skills and a high degree of literacy and numeracy. You should be able to demonstrate an organised ability to work flow and able to work to tight deadlines, as well as prioritise your workload.  You will have strong analytical skills and excellent attention to detail, plus good time management skills.  It is essential that you are able to work in a team environment with the ability to multi-task.  There may be some travel to represent the journals at editorial board meetings.  Some experience or knowledge of working in science publishing would be useful but is not essential.
