Editorial Director

Duckworth, an independent publisher based in central London, is looking to appoint an energetic, creative, and highly motivated Editorial Director to lead a
small, creative team.

 

The successful candidate will have experience in and talent for leadership;

 

be self-motivated, organised, and able to handle successfully the challenges of a diverse role;

 

be an all-rounder in editorial;

 

additionally some background in sales, marketing/publicity, digital editorial and administration will be a plus.

 

have solid agent and author contacts as well as ideas for commissioned titles;

 

have a drive to build sales domestically and internationally, both in the trade and through special markets;

 

and have a keen sense of the marketplace.

 

Reporting to the MD, the Editorial Director will:

 

acquire and edit a strong and innovative list of titles encompassing both fiction and non-fiction including history, popular science, memoir, film, pop culture, and other categories;

 

on a day-to-day basis manage the sales and publicity team;

 

manage the digital publishing programme and backlist;

 

initiate forward planning including creating and analysing budgets, managing P &Ls, and analysing sales;

 

and liaise with Duckworth’s US sister company The Overlook Press re submissions, acquisitions, strategy, and management matters.
