Editorial Director – Illustrated non-fiction

This Editorial Director vacancy is an excellent opportunity to gain experience working with prestigious authors on a diverse list of illustrated non-fiction, from cookery to lifestyle, for a leading international trade publisher based in London.  This is a fixed-term maternity cover contract

Key duties:

• Commission and develop a list of illustrated non-fiction with a focus on cookery/food and drink
• Prepare and present proposals for new titles
• Maintain solid market awareness in order to identify publishing opportunities
• Responsible for overseeing the editorial and publication process for your list
• Work closely with authors, agents, freelancers and designers to ensure schedules are maintained

Experience / skills required:

• Track record of commissioning and delivering successful commercial illustrated non-fiction titles is essential
• A wide knowledge of the illustrated non-fiction market, especially cookery and lifestyle, and the ability to identify new trends
• Solid author and agent contacts within traditional agencies and beyond
• Excellent knowledge of editorial and commissioning processes
• Strong communication and negotiation skills – oral, written and presentational
• Team player with excellent interpersonal skills and a proactive approach
