Editorial Office Coordinator

An STM society is looking for an Editorial Office Coordinator to coordinate the journal’s editorial service in their offices in central London. It is a great opportunity for a candidate with solid editorial experience within a journal publishing environment.

 

Key duties:

  • Ensure manuscripts are handled efficiently through manuscript tracking system, liaising with editorial team
  • Provide support to authors, reviewers and editors through the submission and peer-review process
  • Identify areas of improvement and suggest solutions, providing training to all stakeholders on systems
  • Amend editorial workflows and manuscripts tracking system based on journal requirements
  • Responsible for processing manuscripts for newly launched products and ensure smooth transition of articles to production
  • Monitor performance against KPIs and provide reports, maintaining productive relationships with all stakeholders
  • Coordinate administrative arrangements and information for Editorial Boards and committee meetings
  • Liaise efficiently with Editorial Boards

 

Experience / skills required:

  • Editorial experience within an STM publishing environment is required
  • Solid understanding of the peer-review and journal publishing processes
  • Previous experience with web-based submission, manuscripts tracking systems and online platforms
  • Experience of working with and supporting authors, Editors and Editorial Boards
  • Outstanding communication skills and the ability to deal with stakeholders at all levels
  • Excellent organisation skills, with the ability to prioritise, meet deadlines and multi-task
  • Good IT skills including MS Office and the ability to learn new systems quickly
  • A flexible and positive attitude and the ability to adapt to change
  • A meticulous approach to work with a keen eye for detail
  • Educated to degree level or equivalent, ideally in a scientific field
