Editorial Production Assistant

A highly respected and successful medical society publisher based in London is looking to appoint an Editorial Production Assistant to join their editorial Production team.  This is a key role within the department and will require the successful person to have both a knowledge of design and editorial skills.

This role will be a great role to develop your publishing and design skills and key responsibilities of the position will include: providing design and creative support to the editorial Production Department, producing regular advertorial pages in their flagship journal as well as the marketing department, working with them to provide campaign content.  You will be involved in copyediting and production checking accepted papers during the editing process and check figures on accepted papers for quality and request new versions where necessary (editing figure sets to match up with artwork briefs for all accepted papers. You will provide administrative support, working with the Editor and production team to ensure the reviewing process is completed efficiently and administer the Book and App Review section of the website.  Working with the editor to commission external reviewers to ensure regular flow of copy for this section and edit accepted copy to reflect journal style. Other responsibilities will involve validating and setting all reference sets for style and formatting, raising queries with the authors and taking on further validations as necessary.

This is a great role for someone who has some experience of design and editorial and who is looking for the next step.  The successful person will be of graduate calibre and will have a working knowledge of Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator and Indesign (Essential) and MS Word.  You will have some experience in a similar environment ideally from a publishing background (medical/STM publishing is desirable but not essential) and you should have some experience of managing a varied workload; previous editing/text experience would be an advantage as would a knowledge of the journal publishing process.  You will have excellent attention to detail and able to work to deadlines. Experience of using Indesign to lay out attractive print-ready pages would be desirable.

We will also consider a graduate from a relevant publishing course who has the necessary skills and some work experience to bring to the role.
