Global Head Of History & Philosophy

Palgrave Macmillan is a leading global academic publisher. Our Scholarly

Division is one of the largest, most established publishers of academic
monographs and has focused international journals and reference lists
all within the humanities, social sciences and business.

 

We are currently recruiting for a Global Head of History and Philosophy
in our Humanities team to commission in History and to lead the
management and strategic development of our History and Philosophy, and
Religious Studies lists. Based at our new London campus, you will work
with Editors based in both the UK and US to implement a clear vision and
strategy for the team, positioning Palgrave as the publisher of choice
in these areas and driving revenue and list growth.

 

Reporting to the Global Head of Humanities, the ideal candidate will be
commercially aware, target-minded, energetic, driven and passionate
about scholarly publishing and will:

 

• Have extensive experience of publishing for the academic community,
ideally in humanities subject areas, with proven ability to deliver a
profitable publishing programme
• Demonstrate strong managerial experience, with the ability to drive a
team to meet targets and excel. Experience of managing teams globally
would be a plus
• Demonstrate advanced strategic thinking and the ability to implement a
clear vision for the development of the team, and in positioning
Palgrave against competitors
• Have excellent commercial judgement and analytical ability

 

 

• Acquire new titles in History and manage the list day to day,
extending our reputation in this subject area and consolidating
Palgrave’s position as a leading publisher of History monographs
globally
• Campus visits and conference attendance as determined by the needs of the History list
• Implement a clear vision and strategy for significant growth for the
Philosophy and History teams, including a plan for how Palgrave will win
against competitors and become the publisher of choice in these subject
areas
• Work with the Head of Humanities to position Palgrave as the natural ally of the Humanities
• Ensure Palgrave remains ahead in terms of our digital initiatives, including Palgrave Pivot and Palgrave Open
• Manage a global team of Editors
