Senior Press Officer - Harper360

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Harper360 team based in London, a global publishing and distribution initiative within HarperCollins. Harper360 look after distribution, marketing, publicity, and sales of HarperCollins US, Canada, Australia/New Zealand and India titles into the UK marketplace.

The purpose of the role is to plan and implement dynamic publicity campaigns for Harper360’s titles across all channels, including social media. This role will suit a self-assured team player, with excellent communication and organisational skills and the ability to remain calm under pressure, meet deadlines and multi-task effectively.

Key Accountabilities

  • Deliver creative and targeted publicity campaigns across relevant media, including newspapers, magazines, TV, radio, online and social media
  • Liaise closely with international colleagues to co-ordinate and organise promotional assets, early copies of books and distribute advance information
  • Raise POs and log invoices as instructed to ensure departmental budgets are accurate
  • Plan and execute author tours/visits to raise author profile and generate sales
  • Maintain, develop and grow relationships with key journalists, producers and new media contacts across all channels
  • Manage relationships with freelancers appointed to assist with campaigns, blog tours etc and distribute resulting coverage to the wider business
  • Stay in tune with trends and news in publishing, to maintain an awareness of the market and competitor activity
  • Alongside the Senior Sales & Marketing Executive, oversee the creation of the 6-monthly PR Catalogue – co-ordinate copy and images and liaise with the copy writer/designer
  • Ensure Harper360 UK social media accounts are growing monthly with engaged content, reflecting new titles and author activity
  • Compile the weekly Books in the News round-up and ensure that campaigns for Harper360’s focus titles are distributed to the wider business where necessary
  • Liaise with press cuttings agency Vuelio to provide regular updates on keywords and file coverage accordingly
  • Submit Harper360 titles for relevant awards submissions
  • Reply to general press enquiries on backlist titles
  • Provide key administrative assistance to the Publicity Director

Person Specification

  • A genuine passion for commercial publishing across all genres

  • Ability to work evenings and weekends as required

  • Energy, passion and ability to juggle workload under pressure, prioritise work effectively and be part of a small, busy team

  • A motivated self-starter with a ‘can-do’ attitude

  • A team player with excellent communication and people skills at all levels

Skills and Experience

  • Excellent spelling / grammar and strong organisational skills
  • Experience of using social media to promote titles and engage with consumers and key stakeholders
  • Experience of working on fully integrated and dynamic PR campaigns
  • Experience or knowledge of working within a publishing house
  • Knowledge of different media opportunities across print, broadcast and online and an established relationship with key media contacts
  • Experience of negotiating serial deals with national newspapers an advantage
