Do you enjoy reading, discussing and recommending books? Heywood Hill operates a monthly book subscription called A Year in Books. We are looking to expand our team of dynamic and talented subscriptions booksellers. We are looking to fill this role very quickly so don’t delay in getting in touch.

Bookseller (Subscriptions)
Permanent full-time position
Start Date: 9 November 2020
Salary: £19,000 to £22,000 (higher starting salary considered depending on experience)
Duties include but are not limited to: selling books and other products and services, such as subscriptions; advising customers on their choice of books; taking responsibility for a number of recipients of subscriptions, which includes: keeping them informed about their subscription; assessing their tastes in reading; choosing books for them based on their tastes in reading and making sure these are sent out to them in good time; looking after the givers of the subscriptions and their enquiries; keeping informed about new publications; promoting the bookshop’s initiatives and products to customers; encouraging customers to join the bookshop’s mailing list. The successful candidate would be expected to muck in whenever and wherever needed within the business. They may be required to work in the bookshop as a front of house bookseller on occasion or our warehouse ensuring our subscription services, shop and website sales are executed in a timely and efficient fashion; taking payment and operating a credit card machine and cash till, cashing up if required and generally promoting the sales of books and related products.
Normal working hours are 9.30am to 6pm from Monday to Friday, with 45 minutes off for lunch each day. Our booksellers are occasionally required to work on Saturdays from 9.30am to 6pm for which a day off in lieu will be given in the week by agreement.
The place of work is normally our shop at 10 Curzon Street or at our London warehouse but our booksellers are also be required to work from home, particularly during the current pandemic.
You will report to the Head of Subscriptions.
