Journal Publishing Manager, Academic Publisher, Oxford

A renowned journal publisher is looking to appoint a (Senior) Journal Publishing Manager to work on their Social Sciences journals team, based in Oxford. The Journal Publishing Manager will be independently responsible for the management, including financial and editorial development, of approximately 25 journals, working within a global subject team that includes editorial, marketing and digital product management and production colleagues.

 

Within the role, the successful candidate will monitor, draft and revise contracts, attend editorial board and society meetings, handle all editorial correspondence and support senior colleagues through the commissioning process. They will also oversee the delivery of bespoke web publishing projects relevant to their list and contribute towards team and company targets.

 

The ideal applicant will have previous experience of managing academic journals. They will also have experience with conference attendance and fronting editorial meetings. Some knowledge of social sciences would be beneficial and the applicant must have knowledge of the commercial environment for journals and what contributes to improved profitability. Demonstrable negotiation skills, computer proficiency and excellent written and oral communication skills are important for this role.
