Junior Commissioning Editor - Medical Publishing

A highly successful, global publisher of scientific and academic books and journals based in London, is looking to recruit a motivated entry level junior Commissioning editor to join their Medicine & Healthcare journals team. This role is a fabulous way to learn all aspects of medical publishing and the commissioning process. The position will be accountable for the commissioning and content management of an assigned list of journals (round 2-3 journals) to ensure that standards and deadlines are met for your assigned journals.  Relevant training will be given in all aspects of the role.

This is an important role for the list and your specific responsibilities will involve soliciting high quality content relevant to the journals coverage, whilst working closely with the journals editor and editorial boards to ensure that content is relevant; this will involve commissioning timely drug profile/evaluation articles and commissioning fringe articles according to your target.

You will manage 2-3 journals and will work closely with authors during manuscript preparation and processing, and build relationships with editorial boards and key opinion leaders.

Other areas of responsibilities will include processing track papers and language editing as and when required.  It will also be your responsibility to ensure that company review of drug profiles/evaluations is undertaken. You will liaise with an external company to peer-review all content and ensure that all amendments are actioned and that all guidelines and policies are followed, including editorial policies and disclosure information.

You will work closely with Production to make sure issues go to press on time and you will build an awareness of the industry, network with similar roles across the Group to understand how others work, benchmark your role and strategies you use.

This is a fantastic role for an enthusiastic and highly motivated self-starter looking for a serious career in scientific/medical publishing and the successful person will be educated to degree level with a biomedical or life science degree and able to demonstrate an interest in scientific/medical publishing. You may have worked as an intern, or have some previous editorial/work experience which you are looking to build upon; possess strong communication skills, both written and verbal; able to work as part of a team and have excellent time management skills.  You will be highly organised with the ability to prioritise your work and work to strict deadlines. Experience of or a degree relating to drug development would also be an asset.
