Managing Editor

A fantastic opportunity to join an Oxford based Christian faith publisher as a Managing Editor. You will be responsible for the delivery of their children's and Adult books (Print and Digital) to agreed timescales and budgets of the publishing programme. This is a full time role based in their Oxford office.  This would suit an experienced editor with proven experience of managing projects, ideally in trade publishing.

Key duties:

  • Manage delivery of the assigned publishing programme (approximately 30 titles in 2018)
  • Assign to freelance or undertake the structural edit of delivered and accepted manuscripts.
  • Work closely with Commissioning Editor throughout whole process
  • Brief copy editor/proofreader and address queries
  • Hand text over to design with all relevant information
  • Work closely with designers and production team to manage books through into production.
  • Meet production schedules in an efficient manner
  • Keep the project within assigned budget
  • Review proofs once the book has been designed, ensuring compliance to agreed specifications.
  • Incorporate any amendments to the manuscript that have arisen from proofreading
  • Liaise with Designer regarding images, illustration and obtain hi res images as necessary
  • Keep the author informed during the publishing process and consult as required
  • Assist with descriptive marketing copy for books as may be required

Experience / skills required:

  • Previous editorial experience ideally from a trade publishing background
  • Excellent project management skills
  • Ability to troubleshoot and problem solve
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Proficiency in MS Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint, experience using Adobe InDesign is desirable
  • Experience in children's books publishing is desirable
  • Be theologically aware, biblically literate and spiritually sensitive
