Managing Editor - Journals Publishing

We are recruiting for an exciting role with a leading international publishing company based in Oxford.  They are looking for an ambitious and motivated Managing Editor to join their successful and fast-growing journals editorial team. The Managing Editor will report to the Publisher and will be responsible for a wide list of Medicine and Health Science Journals, supporting the acquisition program of the list. This is a varied and demanding role, which involves substantial international travel.

Main Responsibilities include:

• Building good relationships with a global group of academic editors and learned society contacts.
• Overseeing the financial well being of the journal list.
• Maximizing Open Access revenues.
• Working seamlessly with colleagues in Marketing, Production and other departments and making presentations at editorial board meetings.
• Ensuring retention of existing business and creation of opportunities for organic growth.
• Making presentations at editorial board meetings.
• Preparing financial projections
• Conference attendance
• Dealing with telephone calls, correspondence and routine enquiries.

This is a great position for an enthusiastic experienced editor looking for a more diverse and responsible editorial role. The successful candidate will be educated to degree level or equivalent and will have experience from either a journal or books editorial background. You will need strong IT skills including a good working knowledge of Microsoft Office, the ability to build and sustain good relationships with academic editors and external contacts.

Other essential qualities for this role include commercial acumen, the ability to be flexible and meet strict deadlines.
