Managing Editor - Open Access

Are you an ambitious Managing Editor with a passion for open access and a track-record of successfully managing and developing scholarly journals?

An innovative, new open access publisher based in the oxford area is looking to appoint a Managing Editor to join their friendly, rapidly-growing publishing team. This role offers a fantastic opportunity to contribute towards the growth of their imprint and open access publishing more widely.

The organisation publishes across all disciplines so the role would suit someone who is adaptable and confident working across a diverse range of academics. This role will focus on the management and development of a list and the organic growth of that list. Depending on needs of the subject area the focus may be on acquiring new society contracts, new starts/launches/building on existing content to achieve sales goals and contribute to a profitable, commercial business.

Key responsibilities will include: overseeing the performance and development of a list of open access journals; working with external academic editors and supporting commissioning and acquisition activities.  You will build an international network of contacts and represent the company at board meetings, international conferences and relevant industry events. Other areas of responsibility will involve preparing financial and editorial data, supervising members of the publishing team and helping to manage departmental administration.

This is a great opportunity for personal development and line management as the imprint grows and therefore the successful person will be of graduate calibre with direct experience of journal publishing in a list management role.  Previous experience of managing open access journals would be a distinct advantage. You should be adaptable and confident and should be able to think innovatively about publishing.  You will be commercially astute and able to build strong working relationships with colleagues. The role involves frequent travel.

For further information please forward your CV with a short covering letter, outlining your interest and salary expectations.
