Managing Editor, Scientific Publishing, Bristol

A highly successful society publisher based in Bristol is now seeking a Managing Editor to join their team on a 15 month maternity cover, developing and managing a portfolio of publishing products, including scientific journals and publications.

 

The Managing Editor will work with Academic Editors and the Head of Publishing to develop a strong portfolio of products in line with the overall publishing strategy. With a strong understanding of scientific publishing, its market and existing and potential networks this role will be crucial in order to identify and exploit new business opportunities for this market place. In addition to new and existing product development, the Managing Editor will also have responsibility for developing and managing a strategy for the development of each product and contribution to new ideas for development. As an ambassador for the portfolio this position will manage all client relationships as well as managing the editorial board meetings to ensure the most value from the editors.

 

The successful candidate will have strong understanding of academic journal publishing with a science degree or equivalent and ideally some knowledge of Open Access. The ideal candidate will have experience in managing and developing a portfolio of academic journals with a good understanding of product development. The Managing Editor will have the ability to communicate at all levels with strong negotiating and influencing skills; excellent analytical skills are key as well as the ability to problem solve and think creatively.
